Dear B2B Families,

Our big trip this weekend was a rafting excursion on the Colorado River. We enjoyed great weather and beautiful canyon views over a two-night trip. We had an early start Friday and drove straight to Lee’s Ferry. There, we unloaded our van and took a boat ride up the river to the Glen Canyon Dam. We inflated our rafts, and with our gear packed up in garbage bags, we set off down the river.

On Friday we paddled about 4 miles then pulled over to make camp on the shore. That evening we swam in the river, made dinner, and ran an AA meeting around the fire. It was hot on the river during the day, but luckily it cooled down enough at night for us to sleep comfortably.

The next morning we made breakfast and prepared for a longer day on the river. Around lunch time we paddled through Horseshoe Bend, one of the most photographed sections of the Colorado River. We stopped a few times to explore a slot canyon and to observe petroglyphs left by Native Americans nearly 3000 years ago. We also took every opportunity to jump off any cliffs into the river. By early evening, we made it back to our van at Lee’s Ferry and drove to a nearby campground. In total, we paddled 15 miles of the Colorado River and we were pretty tired.

Since there was still plenty of time left to the weekend, we made a couple of detours on our way back to Flagstaff on Sunday. We first stopped at the Wupatki National monument to observe the remnants of Pueblos built by native peoples hundreds of years ago. We also stopped by Sunset Crater, a lava field created by a volcanic fissure about 1000 years ago. We made it back to Flagstaff that afternoon, went to the gym, and attended an AA meeting in town. This morning we cleaned our gear, some of us met with our sponsors, and we got ready for another week at the house.

Love,
The B2B Boys
