Dear B2B Families,
This weekend we went on a beautiful backpack in Southern Utah. It was a great time for all and we were blessed with fantastic weather. We started, as always, with a group wrapping up the week. We got ready quickly because we had a long drive to Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument ahead of us. We learned the itinerary for the weekend and worked together with the guides to pack the food bags and gear for the trip. We packed our own gear and packed light for the long backpack ahead.
When we arrived, in the afternoon we began hiking. The hike in was around 3 miles which we did quickly. The first campsite was under a massive overhang which included some beautiful petroglyphs on the back wall.
We woke up and had a relaxed morning in the shade of the rock wall before packing up and starting the 5 mile hike to the second campsite near the confluence of the Escalante river and Mamie creek. We hiked quickly and when we arrived we started up the beautiful clear waters of Mamie. We eventually picked out a nice sight along the water under another sandy overhand. We were surprised to see many groups hiking in and camping in nearby spots. Our spot was nicely secluded from the other campers. We cooked dinner and swapped stories as darkness fell then held a meeting in which we discussed ego and pride as it related to our drug/alcohol addictions.
Sunday morning we packed up and began the 7.5 mile hike out. We had a scheduled shuttle to take us back to our van at 2pm. Our pace was quick but easy and we made it easily; stopping to enjoy the cold waters of the river and some beautiful arches and cliff dwellings along the way. The drive home we talked about our experience and enjoyed some fried chicken on the way. All in all it was a great time and a good recharge.
Love,
The B2B Boys
