Hey Families,

For our last May weekend trip, the B2B boys headed up to Escalante Utah. On Friday after a beneficial end of the week review group, the boys packed up and prepared for the hot weather. With the vans full and ready to go, we hit the road heading north out of state. The road trip was an enjoyable one, with amazing views as we crossed through the vast Navajo reservation. After passing the beautiful Lake Powell and into Utah, we stopped for a much appreciated fast-food visit in Kannab. After more driving up through Utah and into Escalante, we reached the trailhead down into the slot canyons around 10 pm. Instead of setting up camp next to the vans, the boys voted to hike into the canyon 5 miles and set up there for the night. With the moonlight and our headlamps leading the way, we descended into the canyon trekking through rocks and sand. Reaching a nice place to set up camp deep into the canyon around midnight, the exhausted group finally got some rest. Waking up the next morning to the landscape the darkness hid the night before, we continued 2 miles further. Hiking down and around a stream, with walls almost resembling a half dome, we set up camp and chilled out. Some guys stayed back at camp and others went exploring farther down the canyon. An arch visible from the campsite made the area even more unbelievable. That night after the boys held an Alcoholics anonymous meeting and wrote in their journals. We built a makeshift dam next to our campsite in hopes to create a deeper swim spot. The dam worked well and the hard work paid off, and it stayed intact for the remainder of our stay. The guys slept in and got some much-needed rest Sunday morning, with help from the canyon blocking the rising sun. After hanging out for a bit, we talked about what we wrote about the day before for SIC ( sharing is caring ). It was a good conversation focused on our family and cultural upbringings. After the boys packed up, Cleaned up camp, and broke down our dam, we decided to hike 7 miles back out of the Canyon. With the high temperatures and the sandy trail, we knew quickly this was going to be a rough hike. With backpacks on, we pushed through the seemingly endless hike reaching the vans. We concluded afterward that the hike was the toughest one this group has done yet. The group decided to head all the way back Sunday night. We reached Flagstaff around midnight and the boys were glad to sleep in their beds. All in all another great weekend at B2B and a great way to spend the last weekend of May.

Till next time,
The B2B crew.
