This week we decided to leave for our outdoor trip on Friday instead of Saturday so we could get in some extra outdoor time. We went down to Sedona and did a base camp Friday afternoon. Saturday morning we got up and drove a few minutes from our camp to the base of Bear Mountain, where we spent the day hiking to the peak. We spent a good amount of time at the top of the mountain, enjoying the view and writing in our journals. The hike was around 3 miles one way and about 1900ft in elevation change, it was a good challenge. We then went back to our base camp after our hike back down, gathered firewood, had a meeting, ate some cheesecake for Joey’s birthday celebration and then hang out by the fire before going to bed for the night. Sunday morning we got up early and drove about a half hour away from camp to hike Parsons Trail. We had to do a few different river crossings on the hike and about 3 miles in came to a swimming hole with a cliff jump. Most of the boys had fun jumping in while others enjoyed laying in the sun on the sandy shore of the river. Then we decided to keep hiking down the trail a ways and found an old abandoned mine shaft, which most of us crawled into and explored around for a while. By the time we were done exploring the mine it was time to hike back to the vans and head for camp. We stopped and got pizza on the way back, stopping at a park in Cottonwood to eat, then headed back to camp. Once back at camp we started a fire, had a meditation meeting, we spent some time hanging out by the fire before heading to bed. Monday morning we got up, packed all of our stuff, cleaned up camp, had our community meeting and came back to the house in Flagstaff. Everyone had a fun weekend and enjoyed the outdoor activities.
Sincerely,
The Boys
