Hola Familias,
This weekend we journeyed over to Granite Mountain, nearby the town of Prescott. On Saturday morning the boys cleaned up the house and made the final touches to prepare ourselves for our wilderness excursion. Then in about two hours we reached our destination and went for our day hike. We went out to the grandfather alligator juniper. This is a special tree because in 2013 there was a forest fire in that area and this centuries old juniper was saved by the Granite Mountain Hotshot Crew from Prescott who made sure this tree lived through the wildfire. There is a plaque dedicated to them at the tree along with trinkets people left there in their honor after the hotshot crew perished in a fire the following year. After this we attempted to go to a meeting in Prescott. Unfortunately, the meeting listed on the internet was not happening, luckily we still ended up writing in our journals there and got to see the town. After that, we ran our own meeting at camp where one of our boys told their story around the fire. On Sunday, the group left to go summit Granite Mountain. The hike took up pretty much the entire day. Once we reached the top of the mountain one of the new boys led us through a Tai Chi sequence, which was really different and cool. We went back down the mountain to eat chicken fajitas and to share what we wrote down in our journals the previous day. Everyone had the chance to share and give feedback for others in the group. The next day, we packed up camp in the morning and made our way back to Flagstaff. On the way back, we stopped at the Verde River to have our community meeting in order to give questions, comments, concerns, confrontations, affirmations, as well as confessions. After that, we made it back to the house and started cleaning up. Overall, it was another beneficial camping trip for the boys and a good beginning of a new week.
Happy Holidays,
Love,
The Boys <3
