Hey Back 2 Basics families, we’ve had another amazing but different adventure this week. We woke up and started our morning with an A.A. meeting followed by some gym time to get the blood flowing. After having some snacks we set off on our two and a half hour drive to Phoenix.

We did our trip different this time starting off with some Top Golf.  Top Golf was amazing and many of our residents had never played. It’s a driving range with targets in the field and the goal is to get the most points. After some good competition we set off to our campground. McDowell State Park was a beautiful desert landscape. We were all hungry from golf and made Calzones over the campfire. Our group came together and we ate like kings in the outdoors.

camping in Scottsdale

camping in ScottsdaleAfter sleeping in perfect camping temps we woke up with another great day ahead. Pancake breakfast and were off to the scenic route of McDowell state park. We had a mild hike with saguaro cactus standing over us. The saguaro cactus is like an unique tree of the desert that thrives in some of the roughest conditions for plant life. After our hike we drove to a park to play a round of disk golf and ultimate frisbee. Competition becomes strong in this group and makes for an amazing game.

cooking in ScottsdaleAfter we were tired we went back to our campground to once again eat some amazing food. Camp enchiladas were a great idea from our youngest resident. His grandma’s recipe came in handy and everyone loved it. The last morning we woke up, had eggs, grits and sausage, and had a conversation about independence and what we think it looks like for us.

It was the end of our trip and a good change of pace from our usual outdoor adventures. Just a two and a half hour drive back home to the comfort of civilization. We love the outdoors but sleeping in a bed after a trip is amazing too.
