Seven A.M. wake up for our trip.We were up, packed, out the door, and on the road by 8:30. With a couple of pit stops in our rear view mirror we arrived at the Hoover Dam. Our group walked out on a bridge with the dam in full view. The dam is an amazing piece of infrastructure and a positive reminder of what people are capable of if you put your mind to something.
With a short drive left everyone was excited to get on our way to the Arizona Hot Springs. We had a three mile backpack down a beautiful canyon where we found an amazing camp spot right next to the Colorado river. Our group set up camp and had some fellowship. Our first night out and already starting our spa weekend. We walked up to the hot springs in the dark and had ourselves a piece of heaven. The springs were between two rock walls where the water pooled up. After a relaxing night we slept like rocks.
In the morning we packed our day packs in order to explore the canyon above the springs. After a morning soak we set off and found a peaceful spot to share on experiences and give some constructive feedback. The conversations are always helpful for the recovery process and some bonding. We explored the canyon some more finding some petroglyphs. The day ended with one last soak in the springs followed by a resident’s amazing story of where he came from, what it was like, and how it is now. It’s always an inspiration and serves as a reminder of what we’ve been through and what we can become capable of when we’re working hard.
The natural spa weekend was an amazing trip filled with some needed relaxation. Everyone woke up the next morning with moods high and packed back to the vans. Our outdoor trips are always amazing and this was one of the best. The great outdoors, the night sky, and natural hot tubs are hard to beat.
