Dear Family,

This last weekend was a SEDONYPAA Convention (Sedona Young People of AA). There were around 90 sober people at Chavez Campground in Sedona. Upon our arrival, we were invited to participate in a yoga class run by an instructor who specializes in therapeutic yoga. Afterwards, a number of us chose to go on a meditation hike to the wind caves, while the remainder of the boys hung-out and networked with other campers. Once those who went on the hike returned, everyone at the campsite got together to play in a cornhole (“bags”) tournament.

One of the B2B teams that played in the competition took home the pot. The winnings were later used to buy the group ice cream and soda to replenish us after the following days hike. That night, the whole campsite got together around a fire for a double speaker meeting. We all sat around the campfire afterwards, further getting to know the other campers. At some point during that period, it was suggested that, rather than leaving for the hike in the morning, that we instead leave sometime during the night in order to catch the sunrise at the summit. We woke up exhausted (some boys stayed up all night) and hiked up to Wilson peak (6900 feet in elevation – the highest peak in Sedona) under the light of our headlights. After returning from the hike to the campground the boys passed out tired and weary until one of the campground host had us leave the campground asap due to a miscommunication about staying an extra day at the campground.

We packed up our stuff and headed to the west of Sedona in the desert after picking up some soda and ice cream. We set up our camp, ate, held a meditation meeting, and passed out while the rain started to trickle down. In the morning we went to a Buddhist Stupa and Peace Park to burn some time and enjoy a prolonged meditative state in a peaceful area. Overall the boys really enjoyed this one and we look forward to the next upcoming AA convention.
