Dear B2B Loved Ones,
This week we went up into the beautiful White Mountains in eastern Arizona, very close to the New Mexico border. The scenery was stunning and the monsoons provided us with a nice break in the normally hot Arizona summer.
Our first day out we began our hike up West Mt. Baldy Trail shortly after setting up and rain proofing our camp. However, within the first 10 minutes of our hike it started to rain and pretty soon we were huddled underneath a stand of pine trees in a raging thunderstorm. The thunderstorm provided us with plenty of hail and lightning, and by the end of another ten minutes we were all completely soaked! That evening we decided as a group to get up early at around 2:30 am and begin our hike to avoid another inevitable thunderstorm. We got to the trailhead around 3:00 am and were instantly surrounded by lightning and thunder. The staff decided it wasn’t safe for us to go and hike, so we turned around and were fortunate enough to go back to sleep for a while.
We got out of our tents later in the morning, waking up to an ominous looking sky. We then held a sharing is caring meeting under our group tarp as the rain came down around us. Later that morning we took a drive up to Sunrise Ski Resort to walk around and check it out, but unfortunately it was closed. We then detoured to Big Lake to check it out and sight see a bit. By the grace of God the weather had cleared up enough to stay outside and not get soaked, so we took advantage of it and took a beautiful hike through a meadow up to the top of some cool boulders (a great place for an AA meeting). All in all, the trip was fun and eventful, and definitely a trip to remember. Super nice to have some rain finally. Looking forward to the wet trips to come.
Love always,
The residents at B2B
