Dear Families,

Escalante river trip This week we went on a 3-day backpack in the Paria which is an area in Utah. The first day we drove about 4 hours to the White house trailhead in Paria and we hiked along a river wash for about 7 miles criss-crossing across the flowing water as we trekked toward the river confluence where we took a right and found our campground. We hiked in the bright sun until we hit the canyon system we were trying to reach where we were in the shade due to the high and narrow walls of the canyon. When we reached our campground, we found it extremely crowded due the influx of Easter weekend campers, so we had to keep our voices down because the narrow canyon caused a lot of echoes.

Day two brought us day-hiking further down the slot canyon where we had numerous dirt-clot fights and various sweet picture spots. The slot canyon walls rose nearly 300 feet and, in some spots, you could touch both sides with your hands. We did sharing is caring on a sand bank that reached into a small side part of the slot canyon where we all got to share about what we are working and listen to feedback from eachother. Once we got back to camp, we packed up and headed back towards the vans and we ended up finding a cool sandbank to camp on about 3 miles from the vans. We had an early night because we had to wake up early so that we could get back to the vans for 9am the next day.

On the last day, we woke up at around 6am so that we could be hiking for 7. We had a relatively light hike, only 3 miles with no elevation, back to the vans and we headed back to Flagstaff.
