Dear Family,
This weekend we went on a trip to Navajo National Monument near Page Arizona. We went on a tour of the Keet Seel cliff dwelling ruins while we were there. To get to the ruins, we had to do an 8.5 mile hike, so the first night we just camped near the trailhead and had some fun at the campsite. We ended up setting up a sprinting race between clients to see who was the fastest one.
After making a bracket and doing 1 on 1 races, J came out on top as the winner in the final race. We were all cheering on each other and it ended up being the highlight of the trip. The next day we left early and ended up finishing the hike around 1pm. A park ranger named Caleo gave us a tour of the ruins and was able to tell us about the history of the Native people that built the cliff dwellings. He also answered all our questions and told us about the Native American culture that still exists in the area.
The day of the tour we also had some torrential rain and hail hit us with very scarce warning. The weather had called for 94 degree heat, so we were taken aback when we had to deal with very fast forming streams running through our campsite and into our tents. Some people had to move their tents while others hid underneath tarps, which made for a hilarious and frantic scene. Some spontaneous and beautiful waterfalls were created along the rock wall as the rain poured down, which was definitely a sight to behold.
The last day of the trip, we got up at 4:30am and hiked out of the canyon in just a few hours. We were lucky to beat the heat of the day and have some cloudy skies in the morning. The weather, hiking, and ruins we experienced on this trip wont soon be forgotten by any of us.
Love,
